School Business Manager, Sheringham Primary School
SLE for: Leadership and Management – School Business Management, Financial Management
Professional & Personal details:
Raheema was appointed as School Business Manager in 2008. She has successfully completed the National College for Teaching and Leadership programmes of Certificate and Diploma in School Business Management. She has also gained her BA (Hons) School Business Management.
When the school changed its status from Junior to Primary school it resulted in the number of pupils doubling. Raheema supported the Head teacher by making sure the facilities, finance, health and safety and human resources were all managed effectively ensuring a positive impact on the influx of additional pupils. During this process Raheema went through the primary capital programme, from the design and build stage to moving the whole school into the new premises.
Raheema has been integral school’s conversion to academy status and this has equipped her with the knowledge and understanding of the process and the significant impact it has on the business operations of the schools.
When the Government announced the provision for free schools meals for all infants, Raheema supported other boroughs through the process (Newham had already gone through it a few years before). She has spoken at the Local Authorities Catering Association (LACA) conference and Education Executive Conference advising on procedures and providing ideas and advice on how to manage it successfully.
Raheema has supported Headteachers in other schools through the process of recruiting school business managers (SBM), writing adverts, giving advice surrounding the job description relative to the needs of the individual school, shortlisting and being a member of the interviewing panel.
Using skills she has developed, Raheema has successfully restructured the admin staff in school, to be more effective and efficient. She has used coaching to build confidence and cohesion in her team. She has transferred these skills when supporting Headteachers in other schools, to develop their admin staff in the same way. Her collaboration with them has enabled them to review and monitor structures, and successfully build stronger teams.
Raheema has also been a staff Governor at Sheringham for the last eight years, giving her a better insight into the importance of robust Governance in a school.
