SLE for Quality of Teaching – English (Writing), Gifted and Talented, Outstanding Practice

Professional & Personal details:

Since joining the school 6 years ago, Sara has developed her practice extensively in the area of English teaching and she is regularly asked to model good practise to others as well as offer input for English based staff training. Sara have worked in a number of English partnerships, consistently demonstrating good practise and guiding less experienced teachers in their planning and resourcing of English.

Within her role as mentor to School Direct and PGCE students, Sara has observed and given feedback; developing colleagues’ training provision to ensure that they have experience of high quality English teaching.

Sara has supported a partner school in their provision of Year 5 English, an area in which they were achieving below-expected results. Across a number of visits t to the school and working with the two teachers involved, Sara was able to coach, give feedback, model good practise and resourcing as well as advise the year group on future developments. During meetings with the English Co-ordinator Sara shared observations of current practise and suggested priority areas for development. As a result of the visits, the lead teacher observed marked improvements in the English work produced by the children and requested further advice and resources to support her future provision.

Sara also has a wealth of experience working with gifted and talented pupils. As Able, Gifted &Talented Lead for the past two years, she has provided teacher training as well as managing a series of enrichment projects such as Debate Mate, Brilliant Club and Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Sara has set up and regularly monitors a register of A, G&T children to ensure that such projects are targeted towards the children who will benefit the most. She joined NACE on behalf of Sheringham and has using the NACE self-evaluation tolls to help shape action planning for effective provision; raising expectations and level of challenge for all groups of pupils.
