Professional & Personal details:

Sophie is a consistently outstanding classroom practitioner, who has had a multitude of roles in her career. In her role as RWI manager Sophie regularly assessed and monitored pupils’ progress and organised pupils into appropriate groups; identifying focus pupils for RWI teachers, who Sophie also observed.

She has carried out ‘Learning Walks’ to monitor the teaching of phonics in KS1 and shares her findings with RWI teachers; both successes and areas for development. Sophie has also organised fortnightly RWI meetings for the sharing of good practice and addressing any concerns through modelling activities. Sophie has also modelled lessons for other practitioners. She has developed successful workshops for parents to share and model how reading and writing is taught through the RWI programme.

Sophie is also an accredited Reading Recovery teacher and has used her knowledge of teaching reading and writing strategies for struggling children; sharing this with colleagues through modelling the teaching of such strategies and sharing ideas of how these can be brought into whole class lessons.

Sophie also has a range of experience supporting colleagues through partnership teaching, coaching and mentoring NQTs and trainees, and successfully leading year group teams within school and externally. She also has used her experience in International Schools, modelling teaching and sharing best practice in phonics and KS1 English curriculum.
